Saline solution spray for fresh piercings

Your new piercing is a fact! But now the most important part begins: aftercare. Although it is tempting to reach for all kinds of aggressive products, a saline solution is often the best friend of your new piercing. Because when it comes to piercing aftercare, the rule often applies: the simpler, the better.

Why saline solution is essential for your piercing

A fresh piercing is essentially an open wound that is doing its best to heal. And all while a piece of jewelry remains in that same wound continuously. Not an easy task, but a saline solution helps you in the following ways:

  • Cleans without irritation: saline solution loosens crusts, wound fluid, and dirt without damaging new skin cells.

  • Soothes the skin: saline solution relieves itching and irritation that often occur in the first few weeks.

  • Promotes blood flow: especially a warm saline solution stimulates circulation, which can speed up recovery.

Saline Solution: Sterile vs. Making it yourself

Although you can mix a saline solution yourself (9 grams of salt to 1 liter of water), many professionals recommend a ready-to-use sterile spray. The sterile saline sprays from the AllOver aftercare collection meet the highest standards and are produced under strictly controlled conditions, so you can use them with peace of mind on your newly placed piercing(s).

Why a sterile saline spray is so great for your piercing:

  • Simply saline: no long list of ingredients, just a saline solution that helps your piercings heal.

  • Easy to apply: the saline solution in our aftercare collection is packaged in a handy bottle so you can easily apply the saline spray to your piercing.

  • Sterile & safe: the saline spray is sterilely packaged in a hygienic bottle. Additionally, in our shop, you will only find saline solutions from reliable brands so that you always have the best quality aftercare at home. Think of saline solutions from NeilMed, Ötzi by Easypiercing, and CleanySkin.

Do you still want to make your own saline solution? Then proceed as follows:

  1. Follow our recipe for a warm saline solution for piercings carefully.

  2. Work with super clean materials, so wash your cups and spoons well and rinse them with boiling water.

  3. Try not to touch your piercing, but preferably use sterile gauze for caring for your piercing.

Quick care tips for your piercing

  • Spray or dab: use a sterile saline solution from, for example, NeilMed or Ötzi by Easypiercing, a maximum of twice a day.

  • Hands off: only touch the piercing with washed hands if it is absolutely necessary for cleaning. Even better: use sterile gauze for care.

  • Pat dry: after rinsing, use sterile gauze again to gently pat your piercing dry.

Why alcohol and many other substances are bad for your piercing

In the past, alcohol or a product like Sterilon was regularly recommended for caring for your piercing or newly placed earrings. Although tests indeed show that these products are capable of killing bacteria, they are naturally far too harsh for the care of your piercing.

During healing, your body looks for a certain balance that is optimal for the recovery of the piercing wound. And not all bacteria are bad, as your skin also needs good bacteria for a smooth recovery. Irritating substances, such as alcohol, perfume, and more, can significantly hinder healing. Therefore, choose simple and reliable aftercare such as a saline solution.

In some cases, healing may not go as smoothly and complications may arise. Consider, for example, piercing bumps, irritation, or (let’s hope not) an infection. In such a case, always go back to your piercer first so you can consult together. After that, you can look into piercing aftercare with extra additives (such as Tea Tree), but always follow the recommended aftercare instructions carefully.
